BARBIE-Q'S HOTPLATE FOR JULY 3RD - JULY 15TH! Wassup around town!

Hello my loves. So I am laying in bed and thinking of what to write about. So many things going on around town. It's July 4th weekend already. The 405 is closing on July 15-17 (they are calling it Carmegedden – LOL) My film LEAVE IT ON THE FLOOR is showing at Outfest (JULY 16th) along with a lot of my friends' films (Congrats!). And I think to myself, it is all about balance. We know how to handle the good things in our lives. We post, brag, email and tweet people all the good news we can take. But it is handling the bad things and how we react to them that makes us as well. Some people shut down, go into a funk or worse we begin to think that things will we bad all the time. I have learned to understand that it is a balance. In the universe or whatever you want to call it. There will always be bad things happening to us, but why is it we remember them and forget the good things? Think about it. Balance my loves. As queens, we get bombarded with compliments, suggestions and how we should be. We have to learn how to keep the love and let the negativity go. No focusing on what jobs you aren't working, not making RuPual's Drag Race, the part you didn't get. We have to know that our true friends will want to hear us gripe once in a while as well It's OK. It is all for a reason (I hate that cliché) but it is true. Know it is how you react that will keep you sane. B loves you.

So what else is going on around LA that Miss Barbie-Q recommends you may ask?

Thursday, 7/7 OUTFEST OPENS

LACE and Ultra-red present: What is the scandal in the City of Bell? @LACE (6522 Hollywood Blvd)“For this conversation, the art collective Ultra-red brings together Hector Alvarado (PUMAS) and Leonard Vilchis (Union de Vecinos & Ultra-Red) - two community organizers who have a first-hand perspective on the scandal and the efforts by local residents to move towards more participatory forms of local government. Both organizers have a critical perspective on the scandal in Bell as told by the media. Is there another narrative about the scandal, one that has not been heard in the media? Join us for this important discussion about how a small city of under 50,000 residents offers a portrait of the social antagonisms that define politics in American democracy today.” Looks amazing! This event is free.
